Game day season is officially here, and while everyone else is stressing over tailgate dip variations and fantasy roster lineups, I’m over here answering the real question: What are we eating for kick-off dessert?
If you want to instantly win the award for best host this football season, skip the plain chocolate chip tray and make these Gooey Lucky Charms Sugar Cookies.

Using ground-up cereal pieces in the dough is the absolute secret weapon of this recipe—it completely transforms these from basic sugar cookies with cereal thrown on top into a true, deep Lucky Charms-flavored cookie. When you process the cereal pieces down into a fine “cereal flour,” it fundamentally changes how the cookie tastes and bakes in three big ways:
- True Cereal-Milk Flavor: Just tossing whole cereal into a dough usually results in stale, soggy bits floating around inside a standard vanilla sugar cookie. Grinding the oat-based cereal down allows it to blend directly into the flour structure itself. Every single bite delivers that sweet, toasted oat “cereal milk” flavor through the entire crumb, rather than just in random pockets.
- Complex, Toasted Depth: The brown cereal pieces bring a nutty, toasted oat backbone that balances out the sweetness. Because you’ve already got white chocolate, brown sugar, and literal marshmallows running through these, the ground cereal acts as an anchor—keeping the cookies rich and flavorful without turning into a total sugar overload.
- Slightly Chewier Texture: Replacing a portion of the flour’s bulk with pre-baked, toasted cereal changes the starch structure of the dough. It helps give the cookies that dense, bakery-style chew, creating an awesome contrast against the soft, melted jumbo marshmallow center.

While the ground cereal flour builds that delicious oat base, the Lucky Charms marshmallow bits and white chocolate chips are what take these cookies over the top!
- Pockets of Crunchy Nostalgia: Folding actual Lucky Charms marshmallows directly into the dough adds those iconic, sweet pops of flavor and a distinct texture. As the cookies bake, some of the inner marshmallow bits soften slightly into gooey pockets, while the bits closer to the top stay delightfully crisp, giving you that authentic cereal-bowl crunch.
- Rich Creaminess from White Chocolate: The white chocolate chips act as the perfect flavor bridge. Their buttery, milky sweetness mimics the rich finish of whole milk at the bottom of a cereal bowl. Plus, as they melt in the oven, they create pockets of velvety smoothness that complement the fluffy, stretchy center.
They taste exactly like a bowl of cereal transformed into a thick, bakery-style cookie. We’re talking cereal flour folded right into the dough, sweet pops of white chocolate chips, tons of iconic rainbow marshmallow bits, and the ultimate kicker—a giant jumbo marshmallow stuffed right into the middle that melts into an insanely pull-apart, gooey center.
Grab your favorite team colors (or just your appetite), and let’s get baking!

Gooey Lucky Charms Sugar Cookies
Created by Sue Mun
Makes about 12 cookies
Ingredients:
- 1 cup (227g) unsalted butter softened to room temperature
- 160g brown sugar
- 100g sugar
- 2 large eggs plus 1 egg yolk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 320g all purpose flour
- 2 tbsp (18g) cornstarch
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups (100g) crushed Lucky Charms Cereal bits (without the marshmallows)
- 1/2 cup (100g) white chocolate chips
- 1-1 1/2 cups Lucky Charms marshmallow bits
- 1/2 bag of Jumbo sized marshmallows
Instructions:
- First, separate the Lucky Charms cereal by placing the brown cereal and the Lucky Charms marshmallows in separate bowls. Weigh out 100g of the brown cereal and grind it up in a food processor until it becomes like a cereal flour. Place the ground up cereal into a bowl and set aside.
- In a medium bowl, mix together the all purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, baking soda and salt until well combined. Set this aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add in the eggs and vanilla extract and mix until smooth.
- Fold in the dry ingredients and the ground up brown cereal into the wet ingredients.
- Then fold in the white chocolate chips and about 1 cup of the Lucky Charms marshmallows. Mix until just combined.
- Scoop about 100 grams of the Lucky Charms sugar cookie dough and roll them into balls.
- Then working with one cookie dough at a time, flatten the dough ball out and place one jumbo sized marshmallow in the center and cover the entire marshmallow with the cookie dough. Shape the stuffed dough until you get a round/tall cookie dough ball.
- Place all the shaped cookie doughs onto a parchment line sheet tray and store them in the freezer for about 1 hour or overnight. You want the cookies to be nice and firm.
- When you are ready to bake, preheat the oven to 400F.
- Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and place 6 Lucky Charms sugar cookies on the baking tray.
- Bake the cookies for about 15 minutes or until the cookies are lightly golden brown.
- Take the baked cookies out of the oven and use a large circle cookie cutter to shape the cookies back into a round cookie shape. Then garnish the cookies with the reserved Lucky Charms marshmallows as decoration. You can also drizzle some melted white chocolate on top of the cookies as well like I did.
- Cool the cookies off on the trays for about 10 minutes before placing them on a wire cooling rack to cool off completely.
